What's happening in Imbabura, Ecuador? 

The Kichwa indigenous people of Imbabura, Ecuador are facing a humanitarian crisis after peaceful protests turned violent. Military intervention in Otavalo, left many injured, unable to work, and without reliable access to basic needs. In response, local healthcare workers created La Brigada 14 de Octubre to provide safe, volunteer medical care for Indigenous patients who have faced harassment in hospitals. This website aims to rally international support by funding urgent healthcare, prosthetics, and essential living resources, while also defending free expression after the suspension of Radio Ilumán, a vital voice for Kichwa culture. Your awareness and support are crucial to helping restore safety, dignity, and human rights in Imbabura.

The Crisis Continues

With 400 casualties resulting from the active shootings, bombs, and physical attacks, Kichwan communities continue to suffer hardship today. 

The bombings and gunfire have left over 400 people injured and many dead. You can make a difference by donating to the people who are recovering from eye wounds and amputations. Money collected through this fundraiser will fund medical expenses (antibiotics, x-rays, prosthetics, etc) and living expenses (clean water, food, and electricity) for families who currently have no income while their loved ones are recovering from injuries. 

As freedom of speech is limited through the suspension of Radio Iluman, power outages, and governmental censorship, this platform provides an opportunity for Kichwan people to share their experiences and for members of the international community to share their support.

  1. Raise money to pay for medical expenses and basic living expenses (including food, water, and shelter) for the Kichwa people impacted by the military attacks that took place in Otovalo and the surrounding areas in October, 2025. 

  2. Raise awareness of these attacks and the current living situation of the Kichwa people. 

  3. Inspire international cooperation to support the Kichwa people.
